Before
installing a truck trailer hitch, check owners manuals to be sure it’s
the right one for the truck and trailer to be towed. Read any instructions
provided with the hitch. Inspect the attachment area of the vehicle,
if there is corrosion or other damage, do not continue. Take all necessary
safety precautions when elevating the vehicle, and throughout the process.
Tips for installing a truck trailer hitch:
• Before attaching to the vehicle, loosely assemble the hitch
(i.e. the drawbar, pin and clip).
• Use a floor jack to lift the hitch into place, or C-clamps to
attach it to the frame during installation.
• Check the exhaust system and bumper of the truck. It may be
necessary to loosen or otherwise adjust them before installation.
Be certain that you have the proper tools and safety equipment before
beginning trailer truck hitch installation. Many modern hitches will
be manufactured to mount into already existing holes. Check for such
holes before you drill new ones. When drilling is compulsory, position
the hitch in its proper location before you drill.
