Tonneau truck tops are the type that fit flush with the top of the truck bed to protect gear from the elements and theft. They are usually made from vinyl, fiberglass or steel. Shells are the type that ostensibly extend the cab and may be higher than the cab. They provide increased vertical cargo space and can give a pickup more of an SUV look.

Camper truck tops are like miniature trailer houses that fit in truck beds. They provide a home away from home with beds, tiny kitchens and even toilets. Body kits are most often installed in work trucks to keep tools secure and organized. They are usually made of fiberglass and offer a variety of configuration possibilities.
Terms like truck tops, shells, caps, lids, campers, et cetera are often used interchangeably. However, different types perform very different functions. Tonneau truck tops are quickly becoming the most popular choice for their versatility. They are usually easy to install and remove as needed and don’t alter the truck drastically.
