A truck bumper protects a truck’s front end from low-speed head-on impact as well as other minor collisions. A bumper is a safety feature required by law in most every state.

Though bumpers are required safety features, they are not designed to protect a car or truck’s occupants. A truck bumper is designed more to protect the truck’s body and certain safety elements such as the gas tank and headlights. In the event of impact, the bumper should keep the gas tank from exploding.

A car without a truck bumper is a fairly naked and exposed car. Any car you buy from a dealership will already have a bumper on it. If you buy a used car from a friend that has no bumper, make every effort to buy and install a compatible bumper or your car won’t be safe or be able to get registered.
