Truck bed cover

Truck bed coverEven though a truck bed cover may not be at the very top of your list when buying a new truck, it is certainly something that you should consider. There are several reasons why these might be good purchases for you, but there are also those who might say that they aren’t worth the trouble.

Listed below in the next several paragraphs are some reasons why a truck bed cover is a good idea and some reasons why they may not be.

Reasons why they are good:
• Keeps out the weather ? If you are the kind of person who stores tools and supplies in the back of your truck, you do not want to have to run out to the truck each time there is precipitation to move the tools to the cab. Having a bed cover allows for worry-free tool storage.

• Keeps things safe ? Some truck bed covers these days even come with locks on them. Not only will the cover protect your tools in the bed of your truck, and keep them out of sight of potential thieves, but now you can lock them as well.

Reasons why may not be good:
• Inconvenient ? Really, it is hard to think of too many reasons why a bed cover may not be a good thing. Obviously they can help deter would-be criminals and they also assist in protecting against inclement weather. The one area that you might say that you would not prefer a truck bed cover is in the fact that they can sometimes be less than convenient. Fiberglass covers are heavy and unwieldy; they are difficult to take on and off and require at least two people to accomplish that.

Truck bed covers are available in hard fiberglass (sometimes call Tonneau covers) that creates quite a shelter space over the truck bed. You can also find hard covers that are low-profile and flat but still hard.

There are also a wide variety of flat, soft covers to fit over the truck bed. Usually made of plastics or vinyl, they are anchored to the sides of the truck. While they don’t offer the security advantages of a hard cover with a lock, soft covers are significantly less expensive, but still create a weather-proof space to protect your truck bed and the tools or equipment stored there.

When you take the advantages and compare them to the potential disadvantages, most people come out of the comparison with the opinion that it is worth having a truck bed cover simply thanks to all of the benefits that it can bring. While truck owners concede there are potential inconveniences with truck bed covers, the same truck owners still feel the benefits outweigh the problems.
