Tonneau
truck covers, also known as tonno covers or lids, protect the contents
of any truck bed from weather and theft. Most have an easy-on, easy-off
design which attracts many consumers who need to be able to use all
of their hauling capacity, then turn around and secure their gear. Tonneau
covers are available as solid fiberglass hard covers or vinyl soft covers.
Hard tonneau truck covers:
• Won’t blow off, even at high speeds.
• Are more durable and secure.
• Are bulkier and can weigh over 100 lbs.
• Cost more than vinyl.
• Can be painted to match the color of the truck.
• May be more difficult to remove/replace regularly.
Soft tonneau truck covers:
• Provide a less solid top, but many are still quite strong (some
are designed to withstand 12 inches of wet snow without collapsing).
• Are easily removed to haul tall loads and easily reinstalled.
• Can be equipped with tension adjusters.
• Are lightweight and easy to install.
There are pros and cons with each type of tonneau truck cover. Individuals
should consider their personal needs then choose hard or soft.
