A suspension lift allows for larger offroad tires to be mounted on a four wheel drive vehicle. This modification provides higher ground clearance and a greater breakover angle. Steeper angles of ascent and descent can then be achieved. These features are a must for any offroad enthusiast.

Most vehicles require a specific kit for suspension lift so caution should be used when shopping around. The type of system needed is contingent upon the type of drivetrain the vehicle has. It could be as simple as lift blocks and extended shocks. More complex schemes may require replacement control arms, trailing arms and even customized linkage systems.

There may also be legal issues concerning a suspension lift as particular jurisdictions restrict the height of private vehicles. Placement of lights and bumpers are also a concern for law enforcement agencies. Most dealers will not install illegal kits but it is recommended that the consumer research local regulations before investing in a suspension lift.
