Stainless
nerf bars are a bit more expensive than bars made from other materials,
but will save you money in the long run. Step bars made from regular
steel are much more susceptible to rust and corrosion. Aluminum provides
versatility of style but is not as rugged.
Stainless nerf bars are available in several styles and finishes. Wheel
to wheel or cab-length tubes are the most common types. Manufacturers
are continually coming up with more radical designs. Side steps may
even be customized for the right price. Stainless bars can simply be
polished or a finish such as chrome plating or black powder coated paint
may be applied.
Installation of side steps and tubes has become so common and simple
that often drilling is not even necessary. Many stainless nerf bars
can be securely mounted within an hour. There are exceptions and restrictions
which usually depend on the make and model of the vehicle as much as
the type of step bar. Consult the manufacturer for further installation
information.
