Fiberglass
truck bed covers, also known as tonneau covers protect the contents
of any truck bed from weather and theft. Bed covers also increase fuel
efficiency by eliminating tailgate drag. They don’t add vertical
cargo room the way standard truck tops do, but most are retractable
or removable to allow for tall loads.
Other bed covers are made from vinyl, aluminum or steel. There are
pros and cons associated with each type of material. Features of fiberglass
truck bed covers include:
• They won’t blow away, even at high speeds.
• They’re more durable and secure than vinyl.
• They’re bulkier than vinyl and can weigh more than 100
lbs.
• They cost more than vinyl but less than steel.
• They can be painted to match the color of the truck.
• They may be more difficult than vinyl to remove/replace regularly,
but easier than steel.
Bed covers, also called lids are easy to install and many don’t
even require drilling. Almost all of them allow the tailgate to open
and closed even while they are on the truck. Fiberglass truck bed covers
can fit under or over truck bed rails. Most are compatible with any
type of truck bed liner.
