Air
filters provide a vital service to the functionality of the truck, though
and shouldn’t be ignored.
An air filter for use on a truck includes a cylindrical side wall which
is an integral part of or adapted to be mounted on a tank, such as the
fuel tank.
Air is taken in through the side wall, passed over baffles for distributing
it, and passed through the filter elements. After passing through the
filter elements, the air is collected in a plenum which communicates
with the outlet air conduit for delivering air to the engine.
The outlet air conduit passes through the front wall of the filter
housing, and this front wall also includes a removable door which may
be removed without having to take off either the inlet air conduit or
the outlet air conduit. This makes easier access to the filter elements
for maintenance purposes.
Here some tips about how to maintain air filters:
• Air filters should be replaced once a year, regardless of what
they look like.
• Air filters are normally quite inexpensive. They are also easy
to change yourself. Simply remove the old one and put the new one in.
NO need to pay a dealership to perform this task.
• Some air filters are not only reusable, but they are also washable.
• When you are checking the oil to your truck, it might not be
a bad idea to check the air filters at the same time. When you do this,
you do not necessarily need to replace it, but instead you might just
want to wash it off.
Likewise, you can also find filters with guarantees to stand up to any
kind of damage that might befall other pieces of equipment. For example,
some manufacturers will actually offer million-mile guarantees on the
structure of their filters. That does not mean they won't get dirty,
but it does mean the air filters should be able to stand up to the punishment
they might receive.
Upgrading your air filter with performance accessories is the best way
to get better gas mileage and improved horsepower from your truck. Stock
air filters are made from paper, but aftermarket filters are made from
gauze or foam.
